Terra Gotha History
Vlissingen, een schilderachtig havenstadje in het zuidwesten van Nederland. Niet direct het eerste waar je aan denkt als je naar het Europese Gothic tour circuit kijkt. En toch is dit stadje in rap tempo uitgegroeid tot 1 van de belangrijkste lokaties voor tourende bands. Vlissingen is geen metropool, maar haar belangrijkste troefkaart is de ligging. Het is snel en eenvoudig te bereiken vanuit de Randstad, België, Duitsland en Frankrijk. Dit betekent dat het Vlissingse festival iedere keer weer een breed en internationaal publiek weet te trekken. Waardoor het festival zich makkelijk kan meten met concerten in de "grote stad". De voordelen van de ligging werden opgemerkt door fotograaf/promoter Wim de Nooyer, die sinds 2001 een groeiende serie van succesvolle feesten en festivals onder de naam Terra Gotha organiseert.

"Na het bezoeken van het 1e GothAM festival in Amsterdam zag ik dat er behoefte was aan soortgelijke evenementen. Mensen liepen altijd te klagen dat er nauwelijks Gothic concerten/feesten waren in het Zuidwesten van Nederland (een paar uitzonderingen daar natuurlijk). Veel zaaleigenaren wensen nog steeds geen Gothic concerten / feesten te houden en keren de herboren Gothic scene de rug toe. Ondanks dat ik hun het tegendeel bewezen heb."

"I.p.v. te klagen besloot ik mijn nek te riskeren en zelf maar iets op te zetten op een kleinere schaal. Gelukkig was De Piek bereid hier aan mee te werken, en ik ben nog steeds dankbaar voor die kans. Na  5 succesvolle Terra Gotha's op rij besloot ik om mijn droom te verwezenlijken en de grote stap naar Het Arsenaal te maken. Het Arsenaal in Vlissingen is een mooie grote zaal met goede faciliteiten."

"De bedoeling is om 3 Terra Gotha's per jaar te organiseren, 2 in De Piek en 1 in Het Arsenaaltheater."

"De avond in Het Arsenaal was meer dan geslaagd, honderden Goths uit binnen- en buitenland wisten de weg te vinden naar Het Arsenaal. De avond was zo geslaagd dat er in 2005 weer een Terra Gotha zal plaatsvinden in Het Arsenaal."

"Door mijn freelance fotografie voor diverse Gothic tijdschriften was het eenvoudig om contacten te leggen met bands om op Terra Gotha te laten spelen. Door het contact had ik ook de mogelijkheid om buitenlandse bands naar Vlissingen te brengen. Ook nieuw talent wordt de kans gegeven om op Terra Gotha te spelen."


 Vlissingen. A picturesque harbour town in the south of Holland. Not, perhaps, the first name which springs to mind when one contemplates the European goth-tour circuit. And yet, this pin-neat little town is rapidly becoming one of the principal stop-offs for touring bands. Vlissingen may not be a major city, but its trump card is its location. It's ideally placed to trawl in an audience not only from the home country, but also from neighbouring Belgium, with France and Germany also within easy travelling distance. This means any gig in Vlissingen has an extremely wide catchment area, and thus potentially an audience easily the equal of a big-city show. The advantages of the Vlissingen's location were noted by photographer turned promoter Wim de Nooyer, who since 2001 has been running an increasingly successful series of gigs and festivals in the town, under the name Terra Gotha.

"After visiting the very first GothAM festival in Amsterdam I felt that there was a growing need for such events. People were always complaining that there were hardly any Gothic concerts/festivals or whatsoever in the southwest of Holland (a few exceptions there, of course). Most venue owners still don't want to have anything to do with Gothic and are turning a blind eye on the resurrected Gothic scene in Holland, even though I've proven them wrong."

"Instead of whining and complaining I decided to risk my neck and organise a festival myself on a smaller scale. Luckily the people at venue De Piek were willing to cooperate and I'm still thankfull to them for giving me this chance. Because of the success of Terra Gotha I decided to make my dream come true and move to Het Arsenaal in Vlissingen, a big, beautiful venue with good facilities."

"My goal is to organise 3 Terra Gotha's a year. Twice at De Piek and one at the Arsenaaltheater."

"The event at Het Arsenaal was very succesfull, hundreds of Goths from all over Western Europe travelled to Vlissingen, and were amazed by the beauty and grandeur of the venue. The year 2005 will definately see a return to Het Arsenaal."

"Through my work as freelance photographer for several Gothic magazines it was easy for me to contact Gothic bands and get them interested in playing at Terra Gotha. This gave me the oppurtunity to book bands from outside of Holland, but also new talent from Holland is given a chance to play at Terra Gotha."
